This is a photo of a large electrical storm in Pittsburg, KS, from the same storm cell that produced the tornado that destroyed the nearby city of Joplin, MO.
Edit: I'm humbled that my shot of this storm got featured in DA's Year-in-Art 2011 representing Joplin. Thanks to everyone who helped get this seen.
For those asking, this was taken around midnight. The actual Joplin tornado touched down roughly 6 hours earlier.
I live in Missouri near St. Louis in a town called Arnold. I was really shocked to see the damage that tornado did to Joplin. It really broke my heart knowing what those people went through. That tornado nearly knocked Joplin off the map.
Two to three days after the Joplin tornado, my hometown of Arnold was treaten with a funnel cloud but thank God nothing happened.
Here are two videos of my town being threaten by this cloud: [link] This was near the high school I went to.
[link] This was near the local Wal-Mart and other local stores. You can see the Arnold Water Tower in the background.
I watched these video a couple of days ago and I thank God that Arnold didn't get hit.
You don't have to watch these videos. I thought I would share them. That's all.
...cooool...this is an amazing picture, absolutely awe-inspiring. It's things like this that really make you realize just how weak and powerless we are compared to the forces of nature. Fantastic work!
